1908 Jacob d`Oliveira is born on April 20 in Amsterdam.
1924-1927 Assistant to portrait photographer Johan Bickhoff.
1927 Sets up as a freelance technical and scientific photographer in Amsterdam.
1930 Assistant in Albert Renger-Patzsch` studio in Essen, where he meets Gerda Leo. They marry in 1932.
1931 Spends six months helping to photograph furniture in Atelier Schmölz in Cologne, where he meets the photographer Hans Spies. In December he sets up in business in Amsterdam, in premises to which Spies has moved in the meantime.
1932-1934 Partnership with Spies. Each subsequently works under his own name.
1940-1945 Although d`Oliveira`s wife is a German, he has to give up his independent business because he is a Jew. During the first war years he works for Marius Meyboom. In the spring of 1944 he is arrested and interned in the camp In `t Zand. On September 5 1944 he is released.
1945-1971 Teaches photography at the Institute for Applied Art Education in Amsterdam.
1968 Maarten d`Oliveira takes over his father`s business.
1978 Jaap d`Oliveira dies on January 17 in Amsterdam.
